I just completed a Discharge Review Case with the Army for a young soldier who smoked hashish while deployed to Afghanistan. He was 19 yrs old at the time. The Afghan Army was giving hash to our soldiers which was common knowledge. Our young soldiers were smoking hash after patrols. Bad idea but unfortunately very common. My client received an OTH and a separation from the Army. His appeal is pending.

Many people commented when they heard about this case the Army Generals can have extra marital affairs, order young female soldiers to have sex and then gel retired with full pay !! It is a sad state of affairs – yet very true and very common. Young soldiers that make one stupid mistake are having their futures ruined while officers escape the consequences of their conduct. A punitive discharge prevents a security clearance being granted and also makes many young people unemployable.
